Vidya Niketan English Medium School has clinched the prestigious International Eco Schools Green Flag Award for the year 2016 – 17 for carrying out the internationally acclaimed Eco Schools 7 - step methodology for environment sustainability in the school under the able guidance and support of Principal Madam Mrs. Vidya Gaikwad, Assistant Headmistress Mrs Vasantha Ramakrishnan, Secondary supervisor Mrs. Bani Roy Choudhury and Primary Incharge Mrs.Meena Figredo.
International Eco Schools Programme is conducted by The Centre for Environment Education (CEE), a national institution which promotes conservation and sustainable use of nature and natural resources leading to better environment and better quality of life, established by Ministry of Environment, Government of India.
Under the Eco – schools programme the school has to follow an international 7- step method which includes environmental review, classroom activities, action, and democratic participation of the students from Class 1 to 5 on the themes: Healthy Living, Biodiversity, Energy and Waste.
Earlier our school was awarded the Handprint flag for the Biodiversity theme for the year 2015-16. This year the school has successfully implemented all the four themes and awarded Handprint Flags for every thematic area for doing exceptional work. On receiving minimum 3 handprint flag awards the school receives an Eco Schools Green Flag Award.
Vidya Niketan School has scored 85 points (out of 100) and secured the International Green Flag Award. The teacher coordinators for the same were Mrs. Bharati Joshi, Mrs. Bindu Manoj, Mrs. Rita Dias.
